Business operation

Tumble Tots is a mobile business in which Franchisees provide the Tumble Tots programme at various centres within their agreed territory each week. Tumble Tots is a registered trademark and Franchisees generate their income through the weekly session fees. All children are required to join and become members of the National Tumble Tots Club. As part of the annual membership fee Tumble Tots members are automatically covered by personal accident insurance whilst attending sessions. Tumble Tots (UK) Limited arranges a comprehensive Insurance policy covering all aspects of the business.

Experience of working with children is not essential, but running a business in a child environment requires individuals to enjoy working with children and their parents. Like all businesses Tumble Tots is demanding and initially it is very much hands-on. It’s hard to describe our job to anyone who is unfamiliar with Tumble Tots. It provides us with a level of satisfaction and excitement that makes it a pleasure to wake up to, even on Monday mornings! After our son had been attending Tumble Tots classes for three years, Cath, was at the right place at the right time to take advantage of the sale of this local franchise. Her previous PE teaching qualification, experience of management and first hand belief in the programme made it an opportunity not to be missed. This was nearly 15 years ago and since then we have worked jointly, long and hard to build the operation up to a level that provides us with a comfortable income and retain a degree of flexibility. Stresses and strains are never far away when running your own business, but that is the price you have to be prepared to pay. The advantages include a sense of independence, greater freedom to carry through your plans and huge satisfaction when things work out well.

Even in this apparently uncomplicated service, the legislation and background infrastructure has to be seen to be believed. The facility to call upon the head office team, as well as share ideas and discuss difficulties with other franchisees can save hours of fruitless work and worry. Our success or failure will always rely heavily upon the performance of Tumble Tots (UK), but more importantly the quality of our class leaders who make up the local team. We have a number of plans to expand our operation in controlled and measured steps over the coming years, fully utilising our greater experience and skills. Our plans will always keep us within the limits of an operation that still provides great fun and keeps us in touch with the most valuable and magic ingredient: the children!
