What is Formative Fun?

Jane Warren a teacher and mother of two started formative Fun in 1991. Jane felt that parents did not realise their influence on the social, physical and intellectual development of their children and often felt inadequate. It seemed hardly surprising that parents felt this way as they have no training for parenthood and little help along the way!

With this in mind Jane set about selecting a range of games, toys, activity books and CD ROMs for parents to use with their children to assist in this role. Jane trains all Formative Fun Advisers on child development, Early Learning Goals, National Curriculum and Special Needs so that they feel confident to suggest appropriate products for a child's individual needs. Products are selected for their compatibility with the English Irish Scottish and Welsh Curriculum and are ideal for helping children to learn important skills in readiness for pre-school, school as a complement to their education programme from 5-16 years.

Regional information days

Included in the pack are dates for regional information days. These days begin at 11.00 a.m. and finish at 5.00 p.m. Lunch is usually provided. Jane Warren, the founder and managing director of Formative Fun will spend the day answering all the F.A.Q.s that arise in the early stages of looking for a franchise. The day looks at the operations procedures, training and support, together with financial aspects of the business (loans, grants, leasing packages, etc.) You will have a thorough understanding of the marketing initiatives involved in building the business and required turnover levels to achieve profitability, etc. There is no charge for this day and no pressure to commit yourself in any way to Formative Fun. The day is designed simply to inform! Should you wish to take the franchise further you will have an opportunity to test the market in your area by becoming a Formative Fun Adviser.

What happens next?

Business training day
Following the Information Day you will complete an Applicant Questionnaire and you are invited to attend a Business Training Day at our Head Office. You will be given help and guidance to prepare a Business Plan so that you can evaluate the business potential and financial commitment required.

Working with a franchisee
We will visit you to assist you with your plan and you will then be invited to spend a week with a franchisee and their staff where you will learn the mechanics of operating a busy retail outlet. You will also take part in a number of external marketing initiatives where you will visit pre-school groups, schools etc.

Finalising the business plan and market research
In order to complete your plan we then set you up as a Formative Fun Distributor. Our Sales and Marketing manager will visit schools, pre-schools and special need groups with you and you will assess the viability of the business in your area. You will be able to take orders and build up your customer base.
