About Favorite Chicken & Ribs

Prior to 1986 only multinational companies based in the USA were offering franchise opportunities in the fried chicken sector of the British fast food industry. This was when company founders Frank Poole and Keith Woodley, each having more than 15 years experience of all aspects of the fried chicken industry, saw that there was a huge gap in the market for high quality fried chicken stores in secondary locations. The concept was to open a chain of professionally run fried chicken restaurants offering at least equal quality of food and service as the brand leader, but at a fraction of the set up cost. This was the birth of Favorite. In early August 1986, on the same day, seven stores were opened simultaneously under the "Favorite Fried Chicken" banner. These consisted of four stores owned by the founder directors and three franchised units, all in and around central London. Six of these original Favorite stores are still happily trading as part of the current franchise system.

In the mid 1990's a three-year initiative was implemented in preparation for a rapid expansion of the brand. The initiative involved increasing staff numbers in the field to enable greater franchisee support, training and control. A major re-branding and updating of the corporate image took place with all stores undergoing refurbishment under the new trading name of "Favorite Chicken & Ribs". At the same time the menu was revised to expand the customer base and offer even greater value. Customer service levels were improved by means of a new staff training scheme and tighter monitoring of performance, including an enhanced "Mystery Shopper" program. Now with the largest UK owned chicken franchise chain, Favorite are moving ahead again, not just with the launch of exciting new products like "Spicy Chicken Rappa", but also the implementation of the "Favorite 2000" store image. A range of bright modern store designs which will further distinguish Favorite from it's competitors. Favorite is continually moving with the times, but still firmly determined to continue with those good old fashioned principals of service and value for money, serving what all our customers have come to know is "Britain's Tastiest Chicken"!
