Top How Bartercard Works
The Bartercard principle is quite simple. It is a fast growing membership based trading organisations who have agreed to trade with one another by using Bartercard system. Bartercard members buy and sell products and services in the same way as they would in a cash transaction – the difference being, instead of cash, the medium of exchange is the Trade Pound (TŁ). Acting as a ‘clearing house’, Bartercard offers an accounting and administrative facility which records the debits and credits of all members. Once Bartercard members make contact with each other and establish they can do business they can then commence a transaction. For example, a printer purchases TŁ500 worth of services from a garage. The printer’s account is then debited by TŁ500, whilst the garage receives a TŁ500 credit. The garage does not have to buy from the printer, but can use it’s Trade Pounds to purchase from any Bartercard member – so giving access to a vast array of goods and services. This flexibility is what makes Bartercard such an attractive proposition to businesses that wish to grow and conserve cash at the same time. How the transaction works A Bartercard transaction is similar to a credit card transaction. The purchaser simply provides their card details and the seller then completes a transaction voucher. This is authorised and the seller gives a copy to Bartercard. Once received by Bartercard the relevant accounts are credited and debited accordingly. Top Success Stories Tom Varcoe, owner of Bartercard Cornwall "I was attracted to Bartercard because it is a simple concept with a huge potential market. Better still it is a business that will benefit from the Internet and communications revolution, but not be superseded by it, the potential for growth is enormous. As an entrepreneur, Bartercard allows me to set up and control my own business, and yet to benefit from a tried and tested formula that has good systems in place. Like more established franchises it allows me to hit the ground running, but it is also at a very exciting stage of development, and has only recently changed gear towards major future growth.” Matt Harding, owner of Bartercard Essex “During the year 2000, whilst my roofing and cladding company was a member of Bartercard, I worked for Bartercard Head Office helping to set up a marketing team and expand the network to the East of London. After this close relationship with Bartercard and also experiencing the positive effects Bartercard had on my own business I decided to purchase the franchise for the Essex area in April 2001. Purchasing the franchise has not only given me an unrivalled product that will suit any business but a fully developed support network and internationally proven system which has enabled me to enjoy a growth rate of 300% in the last 12 months – winning Trading Brokerage and Sales Brokerage of the Year.” Top Wayne Sharpe - Chief Executive The Executive ChairmanWayne Sharpe is the Chairman and Chief Executive of the Bartercard Group of Companies.
